Westmalle Beer Glass

Enjoy a Trappist ale in one the finest beer glasses available! This elegant Belgian beer glass has the Westmalle logo on the front and is faceted with a wheat-like pattern. This is a highly sought-after goblet from one of only five Trappist breweries in Belgium (There are only eight Trappist breweries in the world). The design and attention to detail makes this glass one of our perennial staff favorites.

    Features:
  • Brewery: Brouwerij der Trappisten van Westmalle
  • Country of Origin: Belgium
  • Glass Type: Goblet
  • Size: .3 liter or 10 ounces
  • Dimensions: 7 inches high and 4 inches wide at the rim

About the Beer:
Bottle-conditioned Dubbel and Tripel Trappist Ales brewed by the Abbey of Westmalle, one of only ten Trappist breweries in the world. The monestary is located in the village of West Malle, Province of Antwerp, Belgium, and was founded in 1794. Both the Dubbel and the Tripel are considered by many tasters as the benchmarks for the style. Westmalle Dubbel was first brewed for consumption within the Abbey around 1836; Westmalle Tripel was introduced in 1934.

Taste:
Glowing orange-gold color, herbal aroma, and complex flavors that meld rich malt sweetness, warmth, hops, and powerful drinkability.

Serving Suggestions:
As an aperitif with cheese or assorted hors d' oeuvres. Try with rich main courses or enjoy after dinner with fresh fruits and cheese. Westmalle Tripel is excellent with fresh steamed asparagus! Serve in the traditional Westmalle goblet at 45-50 deg. F.

Awards:
"World Classic," Michael Jackson Gold Medal, 2004, World Beer Championships

Surprisingly Hefty
Never having seen a Westmalle chalice other than in photos, I was surprised by the heft of this glass. The bowl itself appears to be easily 50% thicker than the average glass for Trappist or abbey-style beers, which allows for the elegant etchings thereon. Meanwhile, the stem and base are equally sturdy. The sort of glass in which you'd serve a rich chocolate pudding or mousse, never mind a classic beer. You'll work a bit harder for each sip, but it's well worth it.

Appreciative beer consumer
Beautiful bit of craftsmanship at the same price they sold for in Belgium!!! I broke one on my return trip to US and needed a replacement, so I bought four more "just in case."
