The History of Germany's Oktoberfest
The German Oktoberfest, a big time event, is all set to rock Munich. The
world's most famous festival - the German Oktoberfest- draws huge number of
people from within the country as well as from the rest of the world. The
festivities are going to start right from the month of September at Munich.
The story of the German Oktoberfest dates back to the 12th of October, 1810,
when Prince Ludwig of Bavaria weds Princess Theres von Sachsen -
Hildburghausen and celebrated the occasion with a grand party at Munich. The
party was such a hit that it has continued. Since 1811, every year the
German Oktoberfest takes place with improvements or changes for the better
introduced each year.
The Oktoberfest is going to be celebrated for 16 days in the year 2007 from
September 22 to the 7th of October. The period of the Oktoberfest varies
from 16-18 days and the year 2006 witnessed Oktoberfest celebrations for 18
days. The year 2010 is going to be a grander version of the present day
Oktoberfest as it is the 200th anniversary of the festival.
The Oktoberfest is one mega fun and merry-making festival which is complete
with the works. Right from fun rides, entertainment, beer and lots of food.
There are strict security measures here with full time police vigil, as the
number of people attending the German Oktoberfest is huge. The festival is
one of the most famous festivals in the world with over 6 million visitors
coming here every year to be a part of the German Oktoberfest.
The world's most popular beer festival - the das Bierfest - held here at
Munich in an area covering 31 hectares. The beer tents were introduced to
the Oktoberfest only in the year 1896.Beer is literally flowing here with
the small and large tents of beer. Each table in the large beer tent has a
minimum of 10 people so it's going to be time to just drink and enjoy. One
must be there at the exact reservation time or else the opportunity is lost.
Do not leave your seats unattended as the number of people attending is so
huge that you would end up with no seats.
The Oktoberfest has now gained tremendous popularity. Two Tuesdays afternoon
of the festival from 12pm to 6pm is especially for the family with public
transport made available at very attractive rates on those days and several
special discount offers making it very attractive for the whole family.
With very less time remaining for the festivities of the World famous
"German Oktoberfest" to begin, its time to start making plans for attending
